Bible Fellowship
All children begin the 10:30 Worship hour in the main service with their families. Partway through the service, children ages 3 years through 5th grade are dismissed to continue their worship downstairs in our children’s worship programs. Bible Fellowship is our worship class for 3rd-5th graders.
This time focuses on three main areas:
learning about and practicing prayer (more info below)
working on Bible study skills
learning more about who God is and what God has done through the stories of the Bible
This year we are studying the life story of Moses and God’s great rescue of the Israelites, the first Passover, and how it points the way to the Jesus as the Lamb of God and our Rescuer.
Prayer Stations
Children become more comfortable with the idea of prayer when they are given opportunities to try it themselves, in a setting that is calm and low pressure. Providing this sacred, experiential time also acknowledges that they are just as capable of talking to God and listening to God as adults.
Each Sunday our kids have the opportunity to visit six prayer stations set up around the room that incorporate various sensory items and activities. They can:
write private prayers to God (prayer scrolls)
express their thanksgiving (prayer lights)
receive prayer from a friend or an adult shepherd (ribbon prayers)
contemplate the names of God (pinned to our Strong Tower or Shield of Faith)
leave their prayer requests at the foot of the cross (prayer scarves)
hold their Immanuel brothers and sisters in prayer (prayer rocks)
We have found this to be a tender and meaningful time for children and adult Shepherds alike; year after year we see children grow in their confidence as they pray boldly for each other, reminding one another about truth and hope found in Jesus.
