Loving Well: Practicing the Second Great Commandment, week 2

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40

Stop Mind Reading

When we make assumptions about people, we are telling ourselves a story about them which may not be true. When we base our behavior on unchecked assumptions, we can do great damage to a relationship.

Clarify Expectations

Invalid or unmet expectations can lead to needless disappointment and hurt, creating a barrier of resentment in the relationship.

Valid Expectations are:

  1. Conscious

  2. Realistic

  3. Spoken

  4. Agreed Upon
