The Use of the Old Testament in the New Testament, week 1
The Use of the Old Testament in the New Testament
(taught by Seth Ehorn)
We will explore the topic through the lens of “problems and opportunities,” highlighting some of the challenges and rewards of close study of the issues that arise when studying the many and varied ways that the Old Testament is used in the New. The class will focus largely on methods and approaches (with plenty of texts and discussions to illustrate) rather than close readings of individual passages.
Seth completed his doctoral degree at the University of Edinburgh with a project on “The Use of Psalm 68:18 in Ephesians 4:8.” He has published two edited volumes on Composite Citations in Antiquity (e.g., see Mark 1:2-3, which quotes Malachi and Isaiah), a volume in the Baylor Handbook on the Septuagint, and he has a forthcoming volume on Exodus in the New Testament (Bloomsbury T&T Clark, 2021). He is the husband to Rachel Ehorn and the (very) proud father of Miles and Maddie.
