Beyond the Christian West, week 1
Over the course of the twentieth century, the shape of Christianity in the world has changed more dramatically and more rapidly than at any time since the first centuries of church history. The long-time Christian heartlands of Europe and North America have experienced unprecedented secularization. The once-missionary regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America have developed more vibrant Christian communities than now exist in “the Christian West.” Questions throughout the world have multiplied for how believers should live with integrity in their own cultures. This class tries to highlight major developments in the recent history of Christianity for India, China, Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, Japan and Korea, as well as Europe and North America.
